Varsity Coach - Jerry Knafelc
This is Coach Knafelc’s 2nd
year as Head Basketball coach for the AHS Girls Basketball team. Coach Knafelc helped lead last year’s squad
to a 13-8-0 record. Coach Knafelc has
a long history of success as an assistant coach on various levels (
Varsity thru Freshmen ) and in numerous sports here at Arapahoe. Among
his accomplishments and experiences are 30 years of coaching football 21 of
those as a Varsity assistant ( 1 State runner-up, 4 quarter final appearances
), 4 seasons as the Head Freshmen Football coach with an 80% “win” ratio ( 1
Continental League Championship, 1 second place and 2- 3rd place
finishes in the Centennial League). Coach Knafelc also coached wrestling for 20
years, 4 as the Head Wrestling coach at Powell Junior High. Jerry also brings
much Basketball experience to the table as well, 6years of youth coaching in
Gold Crown/Jam/CSA, 3 years as the AHS Boys Basketball Varsity/JV Strength and
Movement coach, 1 year as the JV assistant , 2 years as a Varsity and JV
practice assistant and bench coach and 1 year as the Head Freshmen boys coach (
Centennial League Tournament Championship ). Coach Knafelc is blessed with a
wonderful family consisting of his wife of 28+ years Lisa. Lisa is also a
career teacher and coach in LPS as well as a “Hall of Fame “ Basketball player
at CSU- Pueblo. His son Jed, AHS graduate and Basketball player (Captain of the
2008-2009 “Elite Eight” team) and is currently attending CSU-Pueblo and is
preparing to play basketball for the Thunderwolves ( Redshirted
09-10).Coach’s

Andrea Korn Assistant Varsity Coach

| Abby Hancock Junior Varsity Coach
This is Coach Hancock’s first year coaching basketball at
Arapahoe. Previously, she coached both volleyball and basketball as an
assistant at Palisade High School. She is a graduate of Arapahoe High School in
2005 where she played basketball and ran Cross Country and Track. After high
school basketball, Coach Hancock went on to play basketball at the collegiate
DII level at Colorado Mesa University (previously Mesa State College). Coach
Hancock reflects, “It is a blessing to be coaching and teaching at my Alma
Mater. What I learned at Arapahoe as a student has prepared me for a lifetime
full of high expectations as a coach and teacher. I couldn’t be luckier for
this opportunity.” When she’s not coaching basketball, she enjoys time with her
friends and family, and hopefully, spending that time outside somewhere. She is
looking forward to a successful, high-energy, and positive season for her JV
team.

| Cecil Williams Freshmen Coach In his second year as
an assistant coach, Cecil Williams returns to coach the Freshman Girls’
Basketball team. Last, Coach Cecil
Williams coached the Girls’ Sophomore team that finished 18 and 1. They won the league title and won the league
tournament. Before coaching at Arapahoe,
Cecil coached Junior High Girls basketball at Cherry Hills
Christian Middle
School for four years. He had several teams that had a lot of
success. Before coming to Colorado, Cecil was a coach in Oregon.
In Oregon,
Cecil was a Head Volleyball coach at both the junior varsity and the varsity
levels. Cecil also coached girls’
basketball at the junior varsity level.
All in all, Cecil is in his 13th year of coaching. Cecil has three beautiful boys at home, Jace,
Ryan, and Izac. He also is married to
Anna, his beautiful wife of eight years.
